Food City + 1942 Club
Napa, CA

A beloved hub for the community lives again.

Developing with eyes wide-open.

Sometimes, a project’s true purpose doesn’t emerge until we dig deeper into a building’s history. Such is the case with the Old Sonoma Road Shopping Center in South Napa. Located in the heart of a historic residential neighborhood, we were attracted to the center’s great art deco bones and prime location. But further research revealed its storied past as a Forties-era hub for food, community and commerce. When we spotted the original “Food City” sign letters on top of the building, visible from a Google satellite image, our vision for this project came into full view.

Creating a third space for Napa locals.

Napa is brimming with food and beverage attractions for tourists. Our desire for the revitalized Food City is to create an authentic gathering place for locals to connect over great food and drink, while supporting the Valley’s best farm-to-fork purveyors. Highlights of the new development will include cafes, restaurants, a product market, wine shop, a speakeasy, boutiques, a pharmacy, and 1942, a boutique private membership club to occupy the main building’s second story.

Committing to a community.

Containing approximately 30,000 sq. ft., the reimagined Food City is in its early stages. Capital improvements to restore and repurpose outbuildings are already underway, while we work with tenants new and old and the City of Napa over the next couple of years to forge the future of this historic property.
